Having A Moment: The "What Is That?" Edition

First off, I don't know what's up with all the posts this month.  Aside from the Blog Challenge, I just can't seem to shut up about things.  Good to know my well hasn't dried up, though (I was getting a little nervous in October).  I know that I promised that I was going to not troll the gossip sites anymore, and that People technically is one of these but I saw this picture and just couldn't help myself...

So, my question is "What exactly is that on Khloe's head?"  I mean, I don't exactly "keep up" with these women, but I just couldn't stop myself from commenting when I saw this.  They are, without a doubt, striking women.  I just don't get why it's after Halloween and she's dressed as a fox or a tiger.  Or dressed in a fox or a tiger?  Or is that some other kind of animal?  And how did Kourtney get away with just the ears and Kim not have to wear them at all?  I need some help from the court of public opinion on this, ladies.  If this is a new trend, will you be wearing it?

Day 3: My Favorite Television Program

If you know me at all, you know that I love TV (and movies, for that matter).  If I'm at home, there's usually a TV on, partly for the noise and partly because I can usually find something I'll watch.  So picking a favorite TV show should be easy, except it's not really.

I do love Glee!  I have professed my love for it over and over again on this blog.  I think it's inventive, fun, and full of lots of interesting arrangements of music.  I also really love The Big Bang Theory.  It's truly the funniest show on television, and I'm glad it seems to be finally getting some of the credit it deserves.  Jim Parsons is a comedic genius!  I've always had a thing for comedies as far back as I can remember really. 

I still love Grey's Anatomy, even though it's fallen out of fashion with some. This season has been really interesting, and I'm anxious to see where Shonda and the crew will take things from a writing standpoint. And though, I feel a bit of shame for admitting it, I do love Dancing With The Stars (and So You Think You Can Dance?).  Yes, I realize that reality/competition shows are leaving fewer spaces for well-written series these days.  But there's just something fun about seeing people learn to dance and do it well.  (And sometimes, not so well.)

It's Election Day! So, Go Vote Already!

I was really disappointed this morning when ABC reported that it was predicted that only 23% of registered voters would vote today.  I think this is especially annoying because I find this Congressional election year to be especially important, not to mention the state races.   I mean, c'mon people!  Across the US today, we will vote on who will fill 435 Representative Seats, 37 Senate seats, and countless other state and local offices.  I don't really care if you are a Democrat, a Republican or nothing of the sort, get out and vote!  It's your civic duty and your responsibility.  We are lucky enough to live in a country that allows us to select our leaders, and even in times as political toxic as these, we have to remember that.  As a woman, I always think of the women who fought with everything they had to secure women the right to vote at all.  So, even if I am disillusioned at the state of things, I can't help but think of Susan B. Anthony and Alice Paul and all the other amazing women whose fight gave me a ballot.  Besides, if you don't use your voice in the ballot box, you can't complain about the leaders who are elected!  (And we all know I can't stand to miss a chance to complain! :)

Day 2: The Meaning Behind My Blog Name...

I wish that I could say that I spent a lot of time thinking about the name of my blog.  I didn't.  In fact, when I came up with it, I didn't really have any clue that I would really enjoy blogging all that much.  When I finally did commit to it, blogging became a way to deal with things that were humorous and things that were not so much. 

"So, funny story..." is something that I have taken to saying before I began to explain some sort of crazy life situation.  I guess the blog name just seemed to fit, especially for where I was in my life.  When I actually put my blog together, I was going through a really difficult time.  It took a long time for me to feel like myself again, to find humor in things again.  But life is funny, even in the most difficult and dark times. 

My aim for this blog is to never be too preachy, but to speak my mind.  People have told me that I'm funny, but I don't normally go into a post thinking "This is going to be the BEST POST EVER!"  In fact, if I did, I guarantee I would completely bomb it and create something that was practically unreadable.  I just write whatever I am thinking at the time.  Sometimes I am fired up  (see "Opinions"), sometimes heartbroken.  I hope that it sometimes I do make you laugh.  I also hope that it makes you think, question, or maybe even go to another blog where you will find someone else who is funny, thought-provoking, or fabulous (and a lot of times all three!). 

No matter how you got here, I am always thankful to hear from you.  Please don't ever hestitate to leave me a comment or an email!  I promise I read and respond to them all.  Even if I did start this just for myself, it's no fun if I don't have any one to interact with!  I have "met" some of the most interesting people in the blogosphere and look forward to meeting many more!

Trunk-or-Treat and the Rest of My Weekend

Let's start this post back on Friday, henceforth known as the day that I knew for sure I was not meant to be a PE teacher.  I volunteered to sub for a couple hours and let me tell you, if that was what I had to look forward to in my day, I would start with a Xanax cocktail and have sedative sandwiches for lunch.  The kids weren't bad at all, it was just a lot of noise and confusion on my already jangled nerves.  It's like any other area of teaching, if it's not your thing, you just don't enjoy it!  But I know a lot of really great teachers who are passionate about their love for teaching PE.  Personally, I think it makes teaching middle school look easy.  Luckily, the rest of my day was much more relaxed.  My brother and sis-in-law came down to hunt and we hung out and had chili with my parents. 

Saturday morning, I slept in until almost 10 and it felt SO good!  I bummed around most of the morning, watching TV in my little bedroom cave, as it was so dark and cool in there I just didn't want to do much else.  But I had a photo shoot to do in the afternoon (those pictures will be up soon!).  My fabulous hairdresser, Jen, and her sweet family came down and we had a good time climbing around in the barns and playing on the farm. 

Saturday night, it was time for a little Trunk-or-Treat.  If you don't know what that is, it's an event that my church put on where people decorate the trunks of their cars in the church parking lot and kids come through to trick or treat.  It's a safe way for kids to get a little candy, and a great way to connect our church with a lot of families all at once.  I seriously dislike dressing up (I blame my lack of creativity and sewing ability), but I do love to take pictures.  So here are few of the notable and a bunch of the adorable faces from that night!

 After we left Trunk or Treat, we stopped by to see Jaime's costume.  I was so glad that I did!  I wish I was this creative.  Until noon, she was going to be Lucille Ball, but then she switched to Little Red Riding Hood, complete with the wolf on a silver platter.  She also made Brad a poison apple!

  

Sunday, we went to church, then I did a little shopping.  Scored a great coat from Old Navy and a gorgeous new black purse.  Then after choir rehearsal for the Veteran's Program next Sunday, the girls and I went to Sheena's studio to work on our special!  It was fun to hang out, even if we were working hard to maintain our sanity as we practiced our challenging selection .  (Who's idea was "For Freedom" again, Sheena?)  And we ended it all with Pizza Hut for family dinner.  It was a great weekend!  Just entirely too short!

Day 1: My Favorite Song...

This is is such a loaded question for me.  I absolutely love music, and a lot of different kinds of music at that.  Lately, I've been back to loving an older favorite, "Dark Blue" by Jack's Mannequin.  I know that I have mentioned it before.  It's the song that I go to when I am having a bad day and just need a minute to blow off a little steam.  Something about hearing a pounding piano that makes it all better.

However, I was raised to have an abiding love for MoTown, so I would feel remiss if I didn't talk about what I think it one of the most romantic songs I know, "That's How Strong My Love Is" by Otis Redding.  If I ever manage to get married, this is a definite contender for first dance song.  I just love it!

I could seriously go on on this topic forever, but I have to get my rear in gear and get to work!  I have morning duty, which means I have to be there earlier than usual!  Stay tuned for more of the challenge and more blogging in general today!
