A Word About Miranda Lambert

I realize that this summer this blog has somehow become more of an entertainment listing that it already was.  But it's summer, so I have a lot of time to read Entertainment Weekly and watch videos on YouTube.  If this bothers you, I apologize.  I might also suggest that you're reading the wrong blog in the first place if this is where you came for deep topics like raising the debt ceiling or raising anything other than plants or hell.  Anyway....

I love music.  You all know that.  But I am not a fan of the Barbie doll, studio-manufactured images that too many young stars have to put on in hopes of succeeding.  If Miranda Lambert was a Barbie doll, she'd be Kickass Barbie.  She hunts, she fishes, and she looks good in an evening gown or a t-shirt and jeans.  She sings with the conviction of a full gospel choir and she likes to blow stuff up on stage.  And tonight, she's getting her own VH1 Behind The Music

Now, I don't know where you fall on the TV spectrum but, Behind The Music is a staple of my generation.  You follow an artist from childhood to stardom, discussing the pitfalls, the close calls, and the really cool things that happen when you are famous.  Never have I been more excited about an episode than the one playing tonight at 9:00 Central (check your local listings).

I like that Miranda is as real as real can be.  Check out any of her videos on YouTube, especially those with her now-husband Blake Shelton (Ya'll, imagine the karaoke at THAT wedding!).  She's tough.  She's funny.  She's in love (which from the preview clip I've seen will definitely be a point of discussion).  I just can't say enough things about how much I love her (other than how I've never been to one of her concerts, and certainly think that would make an excellent gift should you ever be in the market for such a thing!  ha!).  But I can show you....

 Or what about...
And we can't forget about those classic duets with her hubby, Blake...
and her new project, Pistol Annies....

Don't you just want to be her friend?  Or at least meet her?  And if not, what artist would you love to meet?

  1. I love Miranda Lambert- especially her song "The House that Built Me". I swear she wrote that song with me in mind. I tear up every time I hear it. And can I just mention her new husband is a total hottie? Thanks for spotlighting her, and I'm going to try to remember to watch her on VH1.

  2. I like her--a lot. And I appreciate the fact that she does try to be real. The only thing that ever bothered me about her was the "Kerosene" rip-off of Steve Earle's "I Feel Alright." Her comment was something along the lines of she listened to the song too much and did it without realizing she had plagiarized.

That's well and good...but it makes me cringe a little--even when I DO like her.

  3. Ooh - that sounds so exciting. I LOVE Miranda Lambert (I mean, who doesn't?) though I admit to being a little weirded out about the Behind the Music... doesn't that come decades down the road, when we learn she's secretly addicted to Twizzlers and sold a goat on the black market?
