This One's For The Fluffy Girls...

Since childhood, I've loved awards shows and that's probably a little weird.  I don't know many fifth graders who were beside themselves because they couldn't stay up all night to watch the Oscars.  (Don't worry, my dad did and still does from time to time tape them for me!)  The dresses, all the glamour, the tearful speeches--I can't remember a time when I wasn't in love with them.  And speaking of people I love, there's the beautiful, talented, and terribly underrated Melissa McCarthy.

Well, now she can mark underrated off the list and replace it with Primetime Emmy winner!  The hilarious women who were also nominated in the Lead Actress in a Comedy Series all stormed the stage pageant style, holding hands and hugging each other.  I don't think it was possible to script the moment when they said Melissa's name with any more perfection, though.  The look on her face said it all.  She's been stealing scenes since Gilmore Girls, chewed the scenery in Bridesmaids with her comedic genius, and while I haven't seen Mike & Molly (the show she was nominated for) because I don't have cable and can't get the local CBS affiliate on my TV, they couldn't have picked a more deserving actress.

I love her because she is who she is.  She's not a cookie cutter actress, and she uses that to her advantage.  And while I love every single actress in her category, I needed a victory for the fluffy girls tonight.  Her speech made me cry not just because of what she said, but because I get where she's coming from.  My friend, Nikki, said it best:  "So happy a fluffy girl won an Emmy."
