R Is For Roses

There's this stupid rosebush in my backyard that I have been trying to kill pretty much since I moved in.  It's not really on purpose, it's just that I have problem keeping things that flower alive and this rose bush is in the most inconvenient place ever.  My dad has cut it down, mowed it down, and it still comes back bigger and better than ever.  And because of that, I love it.  Persistence earns bonus points in my book.

And all I can think as I write this is that the stupid rose bush and I have a lot in common.  And all I can hope is that my Gardener rewards persistence, too.  Because some days I don't have much else going for me.

  1. This rose is beautiful. It reminds me of an old rose that was nearly lost. Someone found it in a cottage garden, I persume in France, and restored it to the world. Called 'Souvener du Madam Jermain'. You should reward the plant's tenacity with some fertalizer. Blog on!

  2. You're crazy! :) Snip the roses and put them in a vase! I would love roses on my table :)

    1. They aren't really on stems long enough to snip. They grow in these crazy clusters. But I do think they are pretty (as long as they are not trying to overtake my sidewalk!)

  3. So pretty...if they're too short for a vase you could float just the flower in water.

    Nice analogy too : )
    Have a great weekend!

  5. I'm your 100th follower. I ought to get a prize for that. Like a gift card to Target, or a car.

    1. When I saw on my dashboard that I had reached 100, I thought "I should get them a prize!" How about my undying appreciation? Keep in mind I'm a poor teacher over here! ;)

  6. Hi Katie: I'm A to Z-ing it tonight. Loved your post. I always had a green thumb until I moved to Florida. Unless, I grow it in pots, not much survives. Drop on by sometimes. Nice to meet you.
