Wednesday Hodgepodge - 5/25/11

1. What is something about living in this country that you value? 'This country' is whatever country you call home.

Pardon me while I get all Government teacher on you.  I tell my students that I find it amazing that a document written more than 230 years ago is still the framework of our government.  We've only made 27 additions to that framework since.  Pretty impressive, right?  We are guaranteed freedoms that people in some countries couldn't even imagine.  It doesn't matter what your political view point is, the Constitution is still the basis of government for us all.

2. What is a favorite something you own that is red, white, and/or blue?

My latest addition is my BLUE glass cookie jar that was a gift from my auntie.  It's adorable!

3. Do you fly a flag at your house on patriotic holidays?

No, but only because I don't have a flag pole or a standard on my house.  The town always puts up flags on the telephone poles, though, and one of them is right outside my house.  So, that counts, right?

4. What ingredients do you think should be included in a great picnic basket?

When I think of a picnic basket, I tend to think of the wine trail.  So, bread and oil, cheese cubes, cherries, veggies, chips and homemade salsa.  (Just to name a few things.)  We don't normally pack a whole meal, but we pack enough goodies that we are always stuffed by the end of the day.

5. What is one interesting piece of trivia you know? Interesting is of course a relative term.

I love trivia!  I was captain of the scholar bowl team in school.  (Yep, I wear my nerd flag proudly!)  But I will borrow my favorite piece from Pretty Woman:  Did you know that your foot is as long as your elbow to your wrist?

6. Wednesday, May 24th is National Escargot day...have you ever tried them? Eww or ooh?

Snails are gross.  Live ones.  Cooked ones.  I have not ever tried them, nor do I ever intend to.  I just think they would taste like buttery gummy bears.

7. What is one thing you know for sure?

That God is God and I am not.  (And for that I am truly thankful.)

8. Semisonic said that "every new beginning comes from some other beginning's end."  Never has that seemed more correct than this week.  Am I right, ladies?

  1. While I agree with number 8, I don't share your enthusiasm over new beginnings at the moment.

  4. Semisonic also says, "I know who I want to take me home."

I'm thinking it's best to pick and choose on their advice.

But how excited am I about my extended vacation?

When can we go the winery????

  5. The blue jar is beautiful! I almost shared the same trivia that you did. As far as beginnings...I got lost in the middle of that quote. As a first-year teacher finishing up certification classes, my brain is completely fried.
