Wednesday Hodgepodge - 7/20

1. July 20th marks the anniversary of the first time man stood on the moon. Flash forward 42 years to July 8, 2011 which marked the start of the final Space Shuttle mission. Should we continue to explore space? Should nations devote more or fewer of their resources to exploring space? Would you want to go into space if the opportunity arose?

I have a cousin who used to work for NASA (now he teaches), and while I didn't every really understand what he did, I do think the work they do there is important.  It's impossible for us to know how something they discover or some technology they develop could be used in our daily lives if they never get the chance to research it!    Though personally, I would not want to go into space.  I'm barely a decent flyer, forget if I was going all the way to space!!

2. What are three things in your freezer?

Peach All-Fruit Popsicles, Dark Chocolate Chips, and California Pizza Kitchen Barbeque Chicken Pizza

3. If you could see any band/artist perform live tonite who would it be? It has to be someone living...no Beatles, Elvis, etc.

Miranda Lambert, because I've really been wanting to see her in concert recently.  My second would be to see James Taylor again.  Best.  Concert. Ever.

4. Ice-cubed or crushed? Or are you one of those people who don't like ice?

I love ice!  My favorite is actually ice from Sonic which you can buy and bring home.  But I am an ice cruncher and not particularly picky.

5. The owner of a small restaurant outside of Pittsburgh recently announced he was banning children under six, saying they regularly disrupted other customer's meals. You can read the story in more detail here but isn't this a perfect topic to discuss in our Wednesday Hodgepodge? Have at it friends...what are your thoughts?

I heard this discussed on one of the morning shows last week and they said that legally, the guy is within his rights.  You can't discriminate on the basis of sex, color, religion, etc. but age is not included in that.  Also, I think that it's not always appropriate to bring your kids to some places.  Most people are good at determining this, but every time I see a ton of kids at the wineries, I realize not everyone is.

6. What was your first car? How did it come to be yours?

It was a 1991 Madza MX6 that was wrecked and my dad fixed it up for me.  They gave it to me right before I turned 16.  And I loved that car and am still sorry I got rid of it when I did.

7. If I had a nickel for every time I ____checked Facebook________ I'd be rich.  (It's my favorite time waster, for sure!)

8. My favorite days of the summer are quiet ones floating in the pool with my friends.  There's nothing like a good dose of Vitamin D and girl talk!

  3. There is so much we can learn from exploring space if we could.

  4. You are SO right about James Taylor. It's amazing that his voice is just as good today as it was when he first arrived on the scene.

  6. Since we don't have a Sonic where we live, I did not know that you could buy their ice! That sounds strange. What makes it so special?

I love Facebook :) I will have to check out the other thing you mentioned too!

  7. Sonic ice is cheaper than a bag of regular ice at 7/11 and it is so much better.

  8. I have to say that I don't have a problem going to a restaurant where there is an age restriction. I made it formally clear on my wedding and reception invites that it was an "Adult Only Celebration". I know I have a lot of friends with little kids, and call me selfish, but I didn't want the happiest and most important day of my life (thus far) interrupted by crying, screaming, etc.
