Wednesday Hodgepodge - 6/20

1. Summer officially rolls in with the Hodgepodge this week, for those of us in the Northern hemisphere anyway. What song says summer 2012 to you?

I love a good music question.  The song that is screaming summer right now for me is "Pontoon" by Little Big Town.  It's everything a summer song should be.

2. What's your favorite quintessential summer food?

Watermelon.  Hands down.  No contest.

3. I've spent a lot of time traipsing up and down the NJ Turnpike in recent weeks. Did you know the rest areas on the turnpike are named after people who lived or worked in NJ? Clara BartonWalt WhitmanJames Fenimore CooperMolly PitcherJoyce KilmerThomas Edison, and Grover Clevland just to name a few. Of those I listed, who would you most like to have known and why?

Hmmm....this is a tough one for me.  It would be between Edison and Clara Barton.  Edison was a genius, but also kind of a jerk, as I understand it.  So the advantage would go to Clara.  I mean, think of all the things that any of those people would have to share with us!  Makes the history nerd in me a little crazy!

4. At what age did you move out of your parent's house and what prompted the move?

I moved out of my parents' house in 2005, I believe.  I moved because my grandma's house was available and it felt like it was time.  I saved up money to do some renovations on the inside and have pretty much been doing them ever since.  Stay tuned for later this summer when I completely redo my bathroom.

5. What's more satisfying to you-saving time or saving money?

Saving time.   I will brag about getting home quicker than normal.   I never have been very good at saving money, even when I try.

6. Name something you think brings out the good in people.

I think that a tragic event sometimes brings out the good in people.  It's sad that it takes something like a natural disaster to bring out a sense of  community, but it's true.  I also think that, at least where I am from, people come out and do amazing things when anyone is in deep need.  I have seen our community raise thousands of dollars to help teachers who were battling breast cancer and things of that nature.

7. This last question comes to you courtesy of Kathy over at Reflections...will you be taking a vacation or a staycation this summer? If so where will you go? If a staycation is on the calendar have you made any special plans to fill the time?

I had a staycation.  We ended up not being able to go to Virginia at the last minute, but several of my friends ended up with time off at the same time.  So we went shopping and to the wineries and to the Jake Owen concert.  It was a good time.  Of course, my last minute trip to CMA Fest was technically a vacation.  So, I guess I inadvertently had both.

8. Insert your own random thought here.

I have been on a major music downloading spree recently.  I bought three whole CDs plus several individual songs.  I will probably be doing a little what I am listening to post at some time in the near future.

  1. Yes, "Pontoon" by LBT is a great summer song! I could list a bunch of country songs, especially by Kenny Chesney. I love summertime AND summertime (feel good) songs!

    1. I just didn't have it in me for a list, but I love country summer songs especially. (Maybe because they usually are suited for life here!)

    1. I'm trying to watch TV less and play music more. I've found when music is on I am more willing to get things done around the house. Already hit a slight snag with the remodel, but at the least it will get painted before the summer is out!

  3. I never download music. I am like an old fuddy duddy who does not understand how it all works. True story.

    1. Downloading music is one of my favorite things! There's so much out there now that I would never have access to if it wasn't for my iTunes account! You should take the plunge!

  6. Downloading music and putting them on when you're doing chores is the coolest thing ever. Watermelon is amazing and I've been eating and doing smoothie thingies with them for the past couple of days. Amazing stuff!!!
